Microneedling
What is microneedling?

Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, microneedling is a medically proven cosmetic treatment to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, scarring, stretch marks, enlarged pores and hair loss. It’s a non surgical, minimally invasive treatment that involves repeatedly puncturing the top layer of the skin with fine, sterile needles.
How does microneedling work?

The needles create tiny channels in the skin, a controlled trauma, that sparks a healing cascade. This creates collagen and elastin, which are our BFFs for structure and support. This, in turn, smooths the skin’s texture, helps with scarring, including acne scars, and can tone and lift. The process also regulates the activity of the cells responsible for pigment (melanocytes) providing a more even skin tone.
How many sessions do you need and how often?

Depending on the concern being treated, a minimum of 3 sessions are required, with a space of about 4 weeks between each session to allow for full healing (this would be discussed during the consultation period). Maintenance treatments are recommended about every quarter after the course.
What happens at the treatment session?

Before embarking on your needling journey, we would have an initial appointment to go through a consultation and discuss your concerns. I like to perform a patch test to ensure no allergy to the needles. We then devise a plan with pre & post treatment advice given.

For the microneedling appointment, the face is cleansed and straight after needling you will relax with a Light Therapy session to encourage healing and to keep the area clean. Whilst under the LED device, you choose between microneedling on the backs of your hands or a hand & lower arm massage.
Is anything applied to the skin to carry out the microneedling?

Yes, and options will be covered during the consultation. To get the most out of the treatment course, it is recommended that a CE marked cocktail of skin boosting ingredients be used, which carries its own proven clinical studies.
Is microneedling painful?

Nope! Some areas, such as the forehead and jawline, may be slightly more sensitive, but at most, it’s a minor discomfort. Most clients find the whole process a relaxing experience! Numbing cream is not needed and, as a vasoconstrictor, is not recommended; we want the circulation to start off the healing cascade. Sometimes the odd blood spot occurs, but we are not after blood and gore! The skin is amazing and just a surface wound is enough for cellular communication.
Can everyone have microneedling?

As with every treatment there will be some clients who are not the right candidate for needling. This will be ascertained during the consultation session, but examples are those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, are undergoing chemotherapy, are immune system compromised, have blood clotting disorders, skin infections, and are on or have used Roaccutane within the last 6 months.
Is there much downtime after a microneedling treatment?

Due to the nature of the treatment, expect some redness and minor inflammation straight after which may last a few days depending on sensitivity. You will be provided aftercare instructions that must be adhered to, but are very simple to follow.
